Boy Scout Day

Date When Celebrated: Always February 8th

Boy Scout Day celebrates the birthday of Scouting in America. On February 8, 1910, Chicago publisher William Dickson Boyce filed incorporation papers in the District of Columbia to create the Boy Scouts of America.
Scouting groups across the country celebrate this day. Often a cake will be served at the weekly meeting or on a campout. Scout Sunday, the Sunday nearest the 8th of February, will often be marked with a church service, followed by a pancake breakfast.
Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts offer a tremendously valuable program of life skills and values for millions of boys. It has been popular ever since Lord Baden-Powell founded Boy Scouts in the early 1900s in Great Brittain. The top award of Eagle Scout is an accomplishment that reaps recognition, rewards, and benefits for a young man throughout his life.
Interesting Scouting Facts:
In 2004, there were 3,145,331 Boys in the scouting program, and 1,173,064 scout leaders. Source: BSA website.
British Lord Robert Baden-Powell founded the Boy Scouts in Brittain. In 1907, he published the first scouting manual, titled Scouting for Boys.
Lord Robert Baden-Powell  was born on February 22, 1857.
Lady Olave Baden-Powell founded Girl Guides. The wife of Lord Baden-Powell, she was also born on February 22 (1889).
The Boy Scout motto is "Be Prepared"
The Boy Scout slogan is "Do a good turn daily".
Where was Lord Baden-Powell buried? It comes to a surprise to most, to learn that Lord Baden-Powell and his wife are buried in Nyeri, Kenya, about three hours from Nairobi.

When I was a little girl I was in the Brownies and Girl Scouts. It was fun to earn badges sticking your finger with the needle you were using to sew it on your G.S. sash.

The boys I knew that were in the B.S.'s were always learning something new and going camping all the time. I really liked the camping part. Being the tomboy, I was growing up I would have preferred the B.S.'s to the G.S.'s because girls can be dum sometimes.

There was a lot of peer pressure joining these clubs for both boys and girls. I think both clubs should have thrown in Karate. Maybe they do now.

Were you in the Boy Scouts as a child? I love stories so do tell.

100 Exquisite Adjectives

I love words and came across a list of them. I'm going to add a word a day to my posts as long as I don't forget.

Word #22 Dowdy: shabby, old-fashioned; an unkempt woman

Mrs. Greenleaf was chosen to be Harry's wife for she was dowdy.

Now, We Have Proof!

I have a niece who lives in Texas, she is educated, intelligent, and successful, also, she asked I not include the city in which she lives, she doesn't want you guys dropping by for lunch, after all.  At some point she became a "camper."  Oddly enough, and this really has nothing to do with this story, she is one of two nieces that have become campers.  What really makes this odd is; when they were younger it always seemed like you would need a pry bar and a couple of strong men to separate either of them from their blow dryers, curling irons, and hair spray, now they head off to the wild with nothing more than a camping stove, a tent, a couple of flashlights, an air mattress, a battery operated microwave, a refrigerator that plugs into the lighter outlet on the car, just kidding, I don't really know what they take camping, but I am sure they go without a microwave.

Anyway, to make a long story short, if that is still possible, my niece, the camper, who lives in Texas, not the other one, the camper, who doesn't live in Texas, decided they were going camping in New Mexico and asked her many Facebook friends, fans, family, followers, and hanger-ons for suggestions.  Of course, being the inquisitive, curious type I immediately suggested Roswell.  For one thing I am working on exposing the great cover up that our government has been foisting upon society since... well, for a long time anyway.

This was a perfect opportunity for a fact finding, information gathering mission, led by an educated, intelligent, successful person, who was not going to charge any money.  We are running on the narrowest of margins here.

It was with great anticipation we waited for the camping trip and the treasure chest of evidence it would provide.  Imagine our delight when she replied, "No thanks, Tim, we are afraid of the aliens."

At long last proof positive provided by an educated, intelligent, successful person who maintains friends, followers and fans on Facebook!  She would hardly be afraid of something that did not exist.  That would just be silly.

Remember you heard it here first, unless you subscribe to my nieces Facebook page that is
